Wastewater Pumping Systems Design Manual - First Edition

Wastewater network pumping systems are only a small part of the sewer network, yet they have a disproportionate impact on the management of the sewer system in terms of maintenance costs, energy use and numbers of failures. The environmental impact of failures is also high, with a disproportionate number of them leading to pollution and prosecution.

In many cases, reliability problems at network pumping installations are caused, or exacerbated by, poor design poor decisions taken right at the start of the planning stage. Design changes during construction that are properly considered by the designers, and subsequent changes are also a major cause of failures as are poorly considered upgrading or refurbishment schemes.

Building on the rising mains manual which WRc produced in 2006, this manual describes the complete design process, pointing out the implications of each decision. Resilience is considered at each stage with the development of contingency plan a key part of the design process at every stage. Energy efficiency, carbon are considered as well as other ongoing costs are also a key design consideration.
