This interactive Hydraulic Network Modelling Training Course is delivered by Richard Foster who has over 30 years' experience designing and planning water supply systems, all-mains hydraulic modelling and operational support. This course provides clean water network modellers, engineers, and technicians with an introduction to network hydraulics. Covering assets such as pipes, valves, pumps and reservoirs, learners will be equipped to use GIS software in the construction and application of hydraulic models.

Course overview
This course provides attendees with an introduction to network hydraulics in the water supply system, and the construction and application of clean water network models. Upon completion, delegates will be able to understand, collect and analyse data for network assets such as valves, hydrants, pumps and reservoirs using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
These skills will equip staff with the confidence and proficiency to support companies in building, visualising, and optimising clean water networks, ultimately helping to minimise supply interruptions, reduce risk of severe restrictions and improve water quality.
Who can benefit?
Delegates may include clean water network modellers and engineers, as well as graduates, technicians and career-starters who already have a good background of water distribution systems and are looking to develop their understanding of how different network assets are modelled using GIS. Training outline
The course uses a mixture of lecture, interactive digital exercises and software demonstrations to facilitate an engaging learner experience. An end-of course multiple choice assessment effectively demonstrates knowledge transfer.

- Introduction to GIS: Basic definitions and applications, annotated using case studies
- Introduction to ArcMAP & Catalogue: Basic navigation and customisation
- Spatial data in GIS: Types of spatial data; import/export of data and management; types of analyses for spatial data
- Understanding Data and Data collection: Characteristics and renovation/replacement of pipes and other network assets
- Automatisation of GIS processes (Model builder)
Hydraulic Network Modelling for Water Supply Systems:
- Network Systems: Hydraulics; Assets and control; Network zonal structure; Hydraulic modelling overview; Attributes in modelling software (with demo)
- Building Network Models: Checking physical assets and connectivity; Demand types, allocation & analysis (with demo); Field Testing; Calibration; Setting up control; Simulations
- Network Modelling Applications: Pressure management; Valve types and operations (with demo); Service levels, ODIs and performance indicators; Developer Impact Assessments (with demo).
